The Chief of Defense Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has commended the robust and enduring relationship between Uganda and Russia, emphasizing the shared commitment to regional and global peace and stability.

During a meeting held at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters, Gen Kainerugaba highlighted the significant role of Uganda-Russia cooperation in enhancing the capabilities of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).

The CDF noted that this partnership has been instrumental in bolstering Uganda’s ability to ensure security not only within its borders but also across the region and beyond.

“Uganda and Russia share a friendship that is not only a blessing to our respective countries but also a cornerstone for our shared aspirations of peace, security, and prosperity,” Gen Kainerugaba stated.

The meeting was attended by senior UPDF officials, including commanders of the Special Forces Command, Marines, and Air Force.

The Russian delegation, led by Mr. Sergey Gusev, Deputy Director General of JSC Rosoboronexport, included military experts from the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Mr. Gusev expressed his gratitude to Gen Kainerugaba and the UPDF for the warm reception and praised Uganda’s leadership in promoting regional security.

He reaffirmed Russia’s confidence in the strong and growing relationship between the Russian military and the UPDF, underscoring the mutual benefits of this strategic partnership.

The discussions further solidified the commitment of both nations to deepening defense cooperation, with a focus on enhancing capabilities, sharing expertise, and addressing shared security challenges.

The meeting in Entebbe follows several other meetings between the CDF and Russian military leaders both in Uganda and in Russia.
