Democratic Republic of Congo’s president HE Felix Tshisekedi was a no-show at the virtual East African Heads of State summit organised by HE William Ruto of Kenya. Present were HE Paul Kagame of Rwanda, HE Hassan Suluhu of Tanzania, HE Salva kir of South Sudan, HE Evaristo Ndayishimiye of Burundi, HE Dr. Hassan sheik Mohamud of Somalia, and HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of Uganda.
The summit aimed to find a solution to the current crisis in DRC following M23’s capture of Goma.
As the Goma crisis grinds on, DRC President Felix Tshisekedi skipped the EAC emergency meeting but gave a defiant national address, declaring that Kinshasa “will not let itself be humiliated or crushed” and accusing Rwanda of sending “thousands of soldiers” to eastern DRC
the absence of the Congolese president made the meeting shorter and no solution was reached. The region awaits to see if the issue can be resolved without more bloodshed.
